Core Scripture: The Attitude of Christ

From the day we’re born, all of us demand that other people meet our personal needs. We cry until Mom feeds us or changes our diaper. We misbehave until Dad drops what he’s doing to give us his full attention. We grow up to seek the highest paying jobs, the most comfortable homes, the most prestigious cars, and the most extravagant vacations. We spend a good deal of our lives asserting our rights and declaring our demands sometimes even at the expense of others.

What begins as a survival instinct quickly becomes an expression of our fallen, sinful nature. We put our desires ahead of the needs of others. That is not the attitude of Christ.

Please read Philippians 2:1-11 this week. Then join us at 10:15 this Sunday morning September 21 as we consider another of GCR’s “Core Scriptures” and ordain our six new shepherds: Eric Augesen, Lan Bundy, Craig Dawson, Mark Helferich, Jarrod Hutchinson, and Roy Geer. In addition to the exchange of charges and pledges, we'll examine how the attitude of Christ informs the relationships and responsibilities between a church and its shepherds.

May our Father bless our shepherds and their families with his gracious mercy, strength, and peace. And may his will be done in us and through us together here at GCR, just as it is in heaven.
