Table Manners

“Come, for everything is now ready!” ~Luke 14:17

The Kingdom of God is described in Scripture as a giant celebratory dinner party. The imagery is unmistakable—from the mountains of food detailed by Isaiah to the vivid meal-time teachings of Jesus to the promised wedding feast in Revelation. Food and drink, communion and fellowship, acceptance and belonging. This is our salvation.

While eating a religious meal with the religious elite, our Lord Jesus challenges their religious assumptions that the feast is only for a certain kind of religious people who adhere to a certain form of religion. This is the Lord’s feast. It’s his. And the guest list is long.
