THE CORE

Our shepherds and ministers have carefully and prayerfully selected ten passages of Scripture we call GCR’s Core Scriptures. These are ten primary, central Bible passages that speak to the things that really matter: the identity of God and his holy mission, who we are and our divine purpose, how we treat one another, how we are saved, how we follow Christ, etc., These are foundational passages, Scriptures through which the rest of the Bible can be interpreted—the heart of God, the primary commands, the prayers and the promises, the weightier matters. They declare the truth of the Gospel and they remind us how to live in light of that Good News.

And they form us.

These are formational passages that, when they get inside us, when they become a part of who we are, will shape us more into the image of God’s Son.

We listen to these Scriptures each Sunday at GCR, a different passage each week. We’re not afraid of repetition; in fact, we embrace it. We want to hear these words over and over when we’re together, again and again. We want these verses to be embedded deep into our souls. We want to be shaped into a certain kind of people. We want this to be our core.
